In this excerpt from her Conscious Living blog Jillian shares the importance of meditation as a way to connect to that infinite aspect of ourselves that is beyond time and space and the practical benefits of that experience… A very wise man recently said to me, “It is only time that makes one feel stressed”. Have you noticed that whenever you feel worked up or overwhelmed, everything in your body speeds up? Your heart rate increases, breathing becomes more rapid and the body heats up as molecules vibrate more quickly throughout your system. Studies on the aging process show that more stress leads to more rapid aging as the body races to keep up with the demands of life. As everything cranks up on a physiological level, your mind is also filled with a multitude of thoughts and waves of anxiety may cloud your emotional state. There is a sense of pressure that time is running out. In this state we can easily slip into a kind of “last chance” mentality where it feels like time is racing by. “I’m X years old and I still haven’t done ABC”
The “happiness” that everyone is looking for, in its true aspect, cannot come into our path if not through that central intellect – which is beyond the mind’s cleverness. I would like to use this space to share something that I’m still learning. The persistent need of our human mind to comprehend and control everything is ultimately impossible to fulfil. If we could only accept this detail, we would be closer to freedom. In which ever way we interpret the infinite aspects of this incredible journey of Life, it is only an individual perception – just one of the many interchangeable standpoints you may hold. Of course the human mind is an incredible gift, a very practical and potent instrument, yet it is simply a small aspect of the all-encompassing reality that we all are. (more…)
