Alchemy Health Tips: ‘Holiday Protection’
By Michelle Sorrell 29/07/2011
Here are a few hints and recommendations for a safe and enjoyable holiday:
Sun Protection:
Use natural sun protection products that contain antioxidants to help support the skin’s immune system and protect against cell damage. Avoid chemical-based sun protection products which may cause allergic reactions or irritation.Non chemical sunscreens with zinc oxide sit on top of the skin instead of reacting with it forming dangerous free radicals. I recommend products made by Green People (see www.greenpeople.co.uk).
TIP: 15 minutes a day in the sun without sunscreen increases vitamin D production. Enjoy morning or evening sun, but stay in the shade/wear sunscreen during midday. Avoid direct sun exposure if your skin is fair or sensitive.
Mosquito Protection:
Mosquitoes are usually active at dawn and dusk. Avoid/protect against mosquito attractants such as:
- Dark Clothing
- Carbon Dioxide (you give off more when hot or exercising)
- Lactic Acid
- Floral Fragrances
- Cooler skin temperature of extremities
- Moisture
Try making your own natural repellent using citronella (lemon eucalyptus) oil, rosemary oil, peppermint oil and clove oil.
